the genus cyrtanthus contains approx. 55 species. they are native to south africa where they grow in different habitats like bushy stream edges or in desert regions.
there seems to be no common name for those plants. in germany cyrtanthus elatus is sold simetimes as “summer amaryllis“.

there are two subspecies existing of cyrtanthus mackenii: ssp. mackenii and ssp. cooperi. the spectrum of flower colors range from white to yellow to pink tones.
cyrtanthus mackenii is suitable for bright to light shaded locations.
